What is this service?

Who are the sessions for?

Any child aged 0-11. When do the sessions happen?

Once per week during term-time only for up to 12 months. Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays. 4.30-6.30pm. Sessions last 20minutes. Where do the sessions happen?

In your home or on your doorstep. Wherever you feel most comfortable. You can find out if our volunteers visit your area by contacting us via phone, email or website. If we don't visit your area, we may be able to off your online reading sessions instead. What happens during a session?

Two trained volunteers will bring a selection of books and some stools to sit on. Either the volunteers or the child(ren) can read the books to each other, or even simply talk about or play with the books depending on each child's interests. Children can pick some books to borrow, and request specific books or genres that they would like to read in future sessions. How much does it cost?

Sessions are FREE, and there are no fines for lost or damaged books. Do you support children with additional needs?

Parents / carers are encouraged to take part in the sessions, and we work with them to ensure we bring books that are suitable to each child's needs. Our volunteers are flexible to respond to each family with the simple aim of sharing the joy of books, even if that means building a tower out of them rather than actually reading them. Are you reading tutors?

No. Our job is not to teach a child to read, or to reinforce school learning. We are here simple to share the joy of reading for pleasure, and a love for books. But we do find that our sessions help children to grow in confidence, enjoy reading more, and explore a much wider range of books.
