Community Advocacy empowers people to make informed decisions, advocate for themselves, and to understand information about a range of issues. Community Advocacy is provided by HF Mencap, HFAN's specialist provider.
An Independent Health Complaints Advocate (IHCA) supports people to complain about the treatment or care that, they, or a friend or family member have received from an NHS service. An advocate can offer varying levels of support and will help navigate you through the complaints process.

An Independent Health Complaints Advocate (IHCA) supports people to complain about the treatment or care that they, or a friend or family member, have received from an NHS service.
An advocate can offer varying levels of support from help identifying the outcomes you want to achieve by complaining, to proof reading complaints, or helping you to understand response letters.
An Independent Advocate is always on your side and is there to help you navigate you through the NHS complaints process.
The complainant must live in Hammersmith and Fulham, and the consent of the person at the heart of the complaint will always be sought before an advocate can begin active support.
Please note, NHS complaints should be submitted within a year of an event occurring.
