This service helps residents save money and reduce the mental stress of bills at an already stressful time. It also helps residents keep their homes comfortable which can improve health conditions that are exacerbated by the cold and dampness.

What is this service?

H&F Healthy Homes Helping Hand Advice service

Thisinitiative is a partnership between theLondon Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham andGroundwork London’s Green Doctor Programme, aimed at supporting residents in fuel poverty.

This service helps residents save money and reduce the mental stress of bills at an already stressful time. It also helps residents keep their homes comfortable which can improve health conditions that are exacerbated by the cold and dampness. Green Doctors are a team of expert energy advisers who offer free an impartial energy advice. **During the energy consultation, the Green Doctor will help residents to:  ** 

  • Personalised advice on energy bills, for example, help to understand confusing/incorrect bills  

  • Energy saving tips, encouraging behavioural change  

  • Information about the benefits of smart meters

  • During home visits, installingfree energy-saving items such as draft proofing strips/LED light bulbs, etc    

  • Support accessing home improvement grants and schemes       

And where they are eligible:  

  • Supporting with accessing the Water Discounts, Priority Services Register, and other schemes as well as information about Warm Homes Discount.  

  • Support with applications for energy or water debt relief  

  • Refer residents to other services for additional support if needed    

This service is available for households in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham if one of the following criteria is met:

  • Someone with a disability living in the home

  • Someone with a long-term health condition worsened by the cold in the home

  • Pregnant Women

  • Households who have someone over 60 

  • Households who have someone under 10 

  • Households that have an income below £36,000

  • Households whose energy costs more than 10% of household income
