What is this service?

For Brian’s vision is for a dementia inclusive community. We offer activity for brain health and through joining the For Brian community, circles of support are enhanced.

For Brian CIC offers dementia inclusive activity for brain health. Our unique service enables access to nature and the outdoors every Friday morning, meeting at 10am at Old Community Centre, building a dementia inclusive community which meets on occasion for other reasons. Friends are made, loneliness reduced, and a sense of belonging facilitated: “I feel part of the community again”.

Through joining the For Brian community, families can build connections and enhance their circle of support. Opportunities for activity for brain health are shared with the community. For example social gatherings, a coffee morning, gardening, workshops, and activities of interest run by other organisations.

The organisation was set up with and for people with dementia and their families and friends, an experiment to address the limitations and challenges in providing support. It is a bespoke service, building community one person at a time, for as long as it is of interest.

As a small organisation we ask that referrals are made through personal introduction, which usually has a bigger impact in the long run. We encourage health professionals to visit us on a Friday morning for the walk/cycling hub in order to maximise efficient use of resources. We offer families something different and are interested in exploring how this can benefit the support to people with dementia, their families and friends, in LBHF.

Our service is based north of the motorway, but referrals are welcome from anyone who can organise travel. The 220 bus serves the All Ability Cycling Hub, bus stops for the 72, 283 and 70 are a short walk from  The Old Oak Community Centre where we meet every Friday morning at 10am. This is a drop in service, but it is recommended to make an arrangement on first visit.

You can get in touch with us via the website www.forbrian.co or via your healthcare team.

While there are no fees payable, the organisation is run with and for people with dementia and contributions are encouraged, and can be made through the website, or direct to our bank account. Details on request. We also welcome offers of  skills to help run the organisation..
